Rick Schulkey is the Practice Manager of Madison Veterinary Hospital in Madison Heights Michigan. He has been working in the field of veterinary medicine since 2001. Prior to working in the veterinary industry, he was a manager in the hotel industry. He has worked for Marriott, Hilton, and Holiday Inn properties. During his hotel days he worked in various positions of management including housekeeping, front desk, and general manager. In the hotel industry, the main focus is on customer service and making clients happy.

Rick values his hotel customer service training as a significant part of his success in the veterinary field.

Rick believes that “Client Service is what drives our profession.” We learned our technical skills because compassion compelled us to the veterinary profession. Client Service is the element that allows us to use our technical skills. Client service is the communication tool we need to educate and develop staff so that they can teach proper pet care to our clients. Educating the staff to educate the client is a valuable and rewarding investment. If we properly invest in our staff, we wisely invest in our future.

Rick devotes his life to his family-- his wife, Christine, and their sons, Anthony and Michael. They have a 4-legged family member, their Sheltie, Sam. The Schulkey family lives in a suburb just outside of Detroit.
